This painting is part of my early Redlock Series — a body of work where, for the first time, I really began pushing beyond traditional realism and experimenting with abstraction, gold leaf, and mixed media.

When I first released these works, many people compared them to Klimt, especially because of the pose, the use of gold leaf, and the floating presence of the figure. While I deeply admire Klimt’s work, I realised my own interest was different.

What I was searching for was not decoration, but presence — how far I could simplify and fragment the portrait while still allowing the figure to feel present, real and human.
